Microsoft Surface Pro 4 review: High price meets high performance

It’s full-blown computer hiding in tablet form and Microsoft’s latest top-tier gadget has a lot going for it
The Surface Pro 4 retains the unique kickstand from previous versions of the gadget
A cursory glance at the specifications, and therefore prices of, Microsoft’s latest laptop-replacing tablet is more than enough to show that the US tech giant means business.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4: Design and Features

Microsoft
The Surface Pro 4 features an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front facing one for video calls
At first glance, the Surface Pro 4 looks almost identical to previous iterations of the gadget. But a few small changes have been introduced. Microsoft has trimmed the bezel and changed the way the accompanying Surface Pen stylus docks with the tablet. The company has increased the strength of the magnet which grips the Pen in place on the side of the device. It has also moved the power and volume buttons to the top edge so they aren’t blocked by the Pen while it clings on.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4: Conclusion

Microsoft
The Type Cover keyboard is sold separately and will set you back £110
If the thought of a portable Windows PC appeals to you then there’s no doubt this is the device to go for. Windows 10 is a much better system than its predecessor and Microsoft has put a lot of work into creating a reliable and solidly-built product.
Unfortunately for us, reliable and solidly-built products don’t come cheap. Microsoft is pricing the Surface Pro 4 at a premium level and the optional extras are quite expensive. If you compare the Pro 4 to a new computer, rather than a secondary lean-back device then the price is easier to stomach.
That being said, it’s a very capable laptop replacement that will serve you well whether you’re looking for a work tool, entertainment system or creative assistant.
